Software Lighting versus Hardware Lighting

Postby GOLFGEEK1 on Mon Jan 13, 2025 4:08 pm

Hey guys. Just have a quick question that I hope someone or someones can answer. Under GOLFER SETTINGS, I have a choice between Software Lighting and Hardware Lighting. Is either of these more stable than the other or are they just about the same? I've had some strange crashes lately and I'm wondering if this has anything to with it. Thanks Guys. I'm looking forward to your thoughts.

I've never tried anything but Hardware Lighting. Just for kicks I'll try Software Lighting. I'll post about any changes.

Under Golfer/Help, It explains the difference. In short. Hardware lighting uses the graphics card and software lighting uses the cpu. Hardware may be more problematic, software slower. I have a dedicated graphics card and have always used hardware lighting.

Hadn't ever thought about it previously, but have always used hardware lighting without incident. Would have made that choice for speed purposes originally.

Thank you all for your replies. Greatly appreciated. I know that something as mundane as the hardware vs software lighting causes a crash seems a little silly, but sometimes the smallest thing that everybody overlooks might cause a problem in a game that's over 20 years old. There is nothing more frustrating than playing 17 holes and teeing off on 18 and the game crashes for no apparent reason  Anyway, thanks again for your time and responses :)
