Crashing When Going Into Graphics Settings

Postby Bassmaster on Fri Nov 21, 2014 4:44 pm

Did I miss a patch? I replaced my Vista today with a brand new HP which has the home premium Windows 7 in it. So you all know the process. When I go into the graphic settings I crash out of Links. I thought I downloaded all the patches. Any help, thank you.

There's a sticky at the top of the "Talk About It Page" with links to all the patches. I believe there is a 'crash-fix' patch.

You might have to put your video card info in the video card.txt file in the Links2003 folder. You might have to get the information by running DXDIAG and I think there are directions to do that either here or at LinksCorner.
What Video Card did you get with your new computer?

Had the same problem with my new Dell with Intel. When I would open options and click on graphics it would crash.
The crash fix is for checking conditions page.
I added the card to the Video.txt and it somewhat stopped. But making adjustment in the graphics control panel helped also.
I'm still having issues while playing with lines and dark spots on screen not seeing the stick in fairway and on greens.
Some courses are working better than others so far. Been about 2-3 weeks and working bugs out.

Gibby - I don't know what video card you have, but if you go to the cards setup and change the Anti-Aliasing to Use application settings or Off it should take care of the lines you are getting and make the courses look great.

Redskin, I'm not computer savvy. I don't know how to check to see what video card I have.

Thanks Jim, already done and not working correctly. I've added flags in video.txt removed them 1 at a time, turned anti-aliasing on/off. I'm working on it

should be able to right click on your desktop and look for graphics properties, should open graphic control panel.

You could also try right-clicking on your Links2003 icon on the desk-top and then Properties and then under Compatibility, click Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3) - but it just might be the integrated graphic's that is the problem. :(

So Jim, should I change my compatibility mode to Windows 7?

Adjusting compatibility mode may or may not help but doesn't hurt to try.

I'm still crashing when going into graphic settings. I can't see the aiming marker, ball flight, or the ball position indicator.(uphill/downhill/sidehill lie).

gonna assume you can't change your resolution since you can't get into graphic settings.
So try going into your Start, Program Files, Microsoft Games, Links 2003 and them Links 2003 Safe Mode. From there you should be able to adjust your settings to another resolution and that could allow you into graphics settings in the game.

Also, do you know what graphics card you have? And maybe updating to new driver could help.

edit, also go to your help & support page and type this in the search window (DirectX Diagnostic Tool)
When it ends save all info to your desktop and then open, copy and paste it here. Maybe we will see something to help.
