Hey wes- I've had great success with an ATI Radeon 9600xt in my aged Dimension 8200. My old stock motherboard is only 4x AGP, but the Dell seems to behave nicely with the 9600xt 128MB card.
PS- sorry I can't quote properly yet!

can't go wrong with the 9600xt. the best place for boning up on the different cards available:

Nvidea vs Radeon

Postby wes37 on Tue Oct 24, 2006 11:18 am

I've always been partial to Nvidea- should I change to Radeon? If so, why?

there's no correct answer for that question, wes. if you get 20 different responses, you'll have 20 different opinions. i always get a chuckle whenever someone ask what brand of so-and-so should i buy? every pc is different. the software is different. compatibility is different. bank accounts are different. and graphics card performance is the epitome of subjectivity.

pppplllllleeeeeaaaaassssseeee goto cnet.com, read some articles, and pick out the card that best suits your needs. no one here is going to be able to tell you.

terrell said it all (man, for some reason it bugs me not to start my sentence with a capital letter) wes-
Just FYI-
With all my Dell machines I used Nvidia; Ran 3dfx up through the TI-4200 series that came with my aged Dimension 8200 P4 2.4 rig with a gig o' RDRAM. I got the 9600 XT after doin' what terrell sugessted above and haven't looked back since-I'm pushin' the 8x AGP through my 4x motherboard and it's been stable through many other games as well. I'm on the lagging edge of plunking down credits for a new rig-Lesse if PCI Express get's "expressed" first...
Happy shopping- :D
