Black Screen when I launch links

Postby mojo99 on Sat Apr 21, 2007 1:08 am

Hello,

I'm running Links 2003 on a WinXP SP2 machine with plenty of memory (1 Gb) and an Nvidia GeForce 4200 Ti Graphics card with approved - and latest - drivers from the manufacturer.

As explained in the title, all I get when I launch is a black screen. Links even refuses to close down. I don't have any probelms running other graphics intensive aplications.

Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?

TIA,

Mo

additionally, ya might try a modded (xtreme-g) graphics driver from here:

http://tweaksrus.com/

i'm always less than skeptical about whql drivers from nvidia. manufacturers concentrate on stability, and performance goes out the window. also, don't let anyone tell you the latest and greatest (i'm using the xtreme-g 158.16 for a 256mb 6200) doesn't work on older cards. let the hair hang down just a little.

make sure anti-aliasing is turned off or set to application-controlled in the nvidia control panel. everything else can be maxxed, and it'll be fine (i also have a ti4400 and a mx4000).

if you get the urge to buy vista, you're gonna hafta upgrade your graphics card. to get the fluffy aero glass graphics anyway. i picked up the 6200 off ebay for $35. runs all the vista fluffy stuff great.

wHAT ABOUT A nvidia GeForce 6150 LE ? LINKS BEGINS WITH A SMALL BLACK SCREEN THEN GOES TO A LARGER ONE THEN FINALLY TO THE Links SCREEN. Please forgive the accidental caps.

LMAO Jim, you're killing me here. Small black screen, big black screen then Links loads is not a problem, it's completely normal

It seems it started a lot quicker and went straight to Links. I really don't remember.

That's the way it's always loaded for me, takes a little less than 10 seconds
