Returning player an Install Links

Postby Kiwi_NZ on Fri Jul 16, 2021 4:23 pm

Hi all

Returning player after a long hiatus

anyhow, I follow the instructions as best I could from the site forum post, though might of skim read here an there:

GETTING STARTED

So you've decided that you want to play on the tour. Here's how...

1. You need a copy of Links 2001 or Links 2003. Links 2001 is no longer readily available but you might be able to find it on CD on places like Ebay or Amazon.com. That same goes for the CD version of Links 2003. However, you can get the download version of Links 2003.

Original LS discs,loaded an done

2. Your version of Links 2001 or Links 2003 needs to be the correct version. See Patching Links for more information.

done

3. You have to register on the tour and select which type of membership you'd like. See My Account for more information on membership levels after you've registered.

Done

I have installed Game ranger! (done)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Pen and touch No pen or touch input is available for this display

Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 20H2
Installed on ‎26-‎Jun-‎20
OS build 19042.1110
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0

68gb of free space

Installing:

Two read errors skipped on installing

Anyways the first file was: skynet.lib (skipped)

Heres the second https://i.imgur.com/2Uf27Ah.png

I'm trying to install the game from the original LS disc, the above is the second attempt before skipping** the file to proceed to the next segment in the install.

I've skipped it to see what happens (so far so good)

Disc 2 loaded an complete, Disc 1 inserted

Download patchs

Was there every a no cd patch created?

Download Now (452KB)

I'll assume with the above download that this file needs to be place into or inside the links folder an the overwritten ?

*final testing game*

Tested the game, everything seems to be ok :)

hopefully everything runs smooth when play (cough) of course it will!

course/s loading

ok question/s, I have several course disc

One is an original:

LS Links Champion Courses
3 other disc with courses
one disc with 2001 courses
one disc with 2k courses
The complete LS 99 disc an course disc

I seem to recall some of the above might need converting?
I also seem to recall that course can be loaded to a different directory so as not to load up the links folder?
If not will all the above course load or not? (I'm assuming 90% at least)

I think this link will take care of your conversion needs, if not holler out.
https://www.linkscountryclub.com/links-course-converter

I wouldn't worry about the course folder slowing down start up until after you complete all your converting. To avoid links bogging down on startup once your course file grows over 100 courses or so.
Rename the course file to another name... i use "courses 2k3" Then create a folder in the game named COURSES and move the driving.rng and the driving.sha to the newly created COURSES folder from whatever you renamed the original.
You will need to point your course manager to the renamed folder in game when loading them, tell links NO whenever you load a course in the future and it asks if you want to copy to the links course folder.
