How to get Links 2003 to Play in 1920X1080

PostPosted: Mon Jan 06, 2020 6:09 am

For some reason Links is only giving me a max of 1280X720 resolution options. I did do a fresh install of Windows 10 recently and I could swear I had Links working in 1920X1080 mode before that. Any fixes for this?

I decided to take a look at the game again...

Thanks.

Edit: Nice to see you looking at the game again George, its been awhile. There are many here who think you have been playing already as Elwood but iv'e doubted that since i've never seen you play the mod, personally i think Elwood is Hendrick Beck as he was always fond of the blues brothers.

Ok still not quite working right. Still in graphics settings has a max of 1280X1024 max but in 800X600X16 it displays as 1920X1080 if I set all regedit Display settings to 14 prior to loading.

Nice to see you playing Ole. Elwood played at the last second which I was not thinking anyone would do such a thing, wait all week to see if the leader was beatable before playing just a few hours from deadline, and my plan was to Tie Roy just for fun, and I left 2 shots on the table...

I will never be as good as I was. New faster computers, no more slow computer with slow swingmeter which gave me huge advantage, especially with offsnap 3 wood. My close up vision is gone to diabetes, so it is very hard to see grid steps and swingmeter, or anything under 5 feet.

Hi George

I’m just glad this is still here and sometimes I got time to have some fun.

Playing in the last seconds .. dont mind George ! be glad people play
Elwood ... Terry Long ? Annika ... :D

I lost sight on one eye so I guess we even there ....
So I play lill ammy mostly .. but if alls fine I can be lucky at pro once in a while.
All that tech I dont know/do ... I never understood steps ...
My computer like everyone else , i think , was closing down one out of two games and its been like this for years.
Bluescreen , rebooted , linkserror ... a win7 system. .
Never thougt I could do all that work with new and win10 so thats it.
BUT 2 weeks ago I split it apart and esp the RAM , cards ,,,, cleaned with airbrush and put it back!
Seemed to have helped a lot !! only once it “died” in two weeks.

well , nice to see familiar faces and nice we can still play this exlent game at this place

PS

RAGNAR ... AndersB ... that you ?

All interesting but then I got to this bit..
2I split it apart and esp the RAM , cards ,,,, cleaned with airbrush and put it back!

and I wondered what language was being spoken.

It's still the same as it's always been for me. Get up in the morning , eventually switch the pc on , load Links and play a round or two. Hopefully all works ok and I can enjoy playing without crashes or anything but some days, maybe more now than long ago, the pc fails and I crash out. If it does I ultimately just have to get on with it as I have no clue about whatever technical thing causes the crashes.

If it gets really bad and happening every day I guess I give up playing and look for something else. Also maybe I have to switch to windows 10 someday which I fear as I dont have a clue how to do that.

I was excited to see that there was a fix for this but unfortunately it didn't work for me. I'm guessing there has to be a file or registry entry that matches those numbers to the resolutions but I didn't find it

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Links 2003\

Hi Carey B,

After navigating to "DisplaySettings" - in the pane on the right hand side right click "Mode" choose "Modify" and in "Value" type in the number corresponding to the resolution you require (e.g. 14 for 1920 x 1080) Left click "O.K." and you should be good to go. Worked fine for me on both Win 7 & Win 10.

For some reason I was putting in 15 which my monitor cannot do. All good now though I wish I could have it windowed so I could use my other monitor for other things
