Swing Meter is Oblong

Postby MasterMontgomery on Wed Dec 09, 2015 1:31 pm

Hi:
About a month ago my one son gave me his old pc. I installed links and thought I had
things working but the swing meter is oblong. Long from left to right , and short from top
to bottom. This makes hitting 6 and 12 very difficult. The other graphics look great. It is
a Windows 10 os. I did install all patches. Help I can't play like this.

thanks
Doug

Have you tried messing with the display mode in the 'graphic settings' in Links, Doug? You might try a couple different ones to see if that makes an improvement.

Not quite sure what you mean here. My swing gauge has always been oblong and I'm pretty sure the same is true of all screenshots I have seen. If you previously had a round swing gauge perhaps your old graphics settings were not correct?

Apologies if you mean something different to what I'm thinking

Thanks guys, i guess the swing meter is oblong. I did a few
graphic changes and got my original mouse so things seem better.
Maybe i will adjust to it.

thanks again

Doug, are you playing Links at the same resolution that you played it before?

Does it look like this?

Or is it more oblong and compressed?

I'm on a new Windows 8, but I always played rts so I never knew what a normal swing meter was supposed to look like.
I had that same problem since trying out 3 click recently for the first time. The meter looked like an elephant sat on it, somewhat compressed and oblong shaped. The meter had no contrast to it whatsoever, almost blurry, but the course looked great, as how an HD course should look.

What I did: went going fullscreen instead of windowed, or then vice versa, then I experimented with all the resolutions. I found a few combinations that left the swing meter that looks like it is shown here now, but then the golfer ani would disappear until I hit a shot. It took a few different combination tryouts before I found a happy medium.

I'm not sure if the meter is supposed to look like it does above, but for me, it is what it is.

Something else to consider, if it even applies to you: if you have Steam, and have some Steam games installed, sometimes if you adjust a resolution in a Steam game, it will sometimes also apply as a default resolution on your pc in a game that is not even Steam related or Steam installed game, such as Links2003.
I've had this happen a few times. The most recent one that did that to my resolution was 'The Golf Club' on Steam.

Either way, good luck with your meter and your new setup doug.

I'm using 1280x768 32 bit and if I change it to 1280x1024 32 bit it stretches it out more oblong.
Not sure what happens at say the 1400 or 1600x screen options
Common sense and common courtesy two things this world needs more of.

I am running 1920x1080, and my meter is a little rounder than what Steven shows his to be.

I am using the same resolution as before. The meter looks just like the pic Steve
posted. Maybe i can change display. It is set to 1028-768-32bit.
1280-960-32 looks the best for me.
