Help!

Postby Bassmaster on Tue Dec 17, 2024 11:19 pm

Hey guys. I was attempting to clean up some files on my computer and there was the lonely Amsterdam GC file and so I deleted it. Well, now my Links 2003 game is gone. No biggie as I'll just reinstall the game. But after 3 attempts at reinstalling I keep getting the message of "Links 2003 crucial files" are missing. I even paid the $14.95 to download Links 2003 on my computer but I keep getting the crucial file message. What do I need to do. I'm running Windows 7 on my house computer. Did I just lose the $14.95? I'm unable to open the game up.

I need some help PLEASE.

Thanks,

Rick aka Bassmaster

Does it tell you what the crucial file is? Perhaps it's still in the recycle bin and you can restore it. Might not be able to since you already re-installed the game.

I looked there this morning and didn't see anything.

Rick, make sure you do an uninstall. You can keep your files, when it asks. I'm getting too used to reinstalling. My PC does phantom power offs, with no message or explanation. About 1/3 of the time it screws up Links and I'm reinstalling.

Me and Johnny got it up and running. I had a phantom empty 'PoliAni" file that just would not go away even when deleting. Johnny finally got rid of it and then the reinstall of links would not install the 'PoliAni' file. We D/L'd the file from his computer and my back up and we got it going. It's all good for now.

Well it happened again this morning playing the KOS. Had a nice round going with an ace on a par 4 without using a mullie. PC just locked and didn't come back after 5 minutes. So rebooted and tried to resume and didn't get one. So attempted to start a different round and Links stops running and has to be restart. So this is when I have to reinstall. Fortunately I'm getting pretty good at the install sequence to get all the patches added and the right display setting for me.

Looks like time for Santa to drop off a new computer?

Can't afford that at this time. So got to just deal with it. Like right now the PC has been running since the reinstall and will probably go for a couple days before it starts again.

When was the last time you opened it up and cleaned the dust out?

I'm pretty sure that might help, it is something I need to try. I might even pull the CPU and reseat it with new gel. It's just finding the time to take it down, let it cool and then tear it apart and put it back together.

I have had to do that before. Mine sits in a little nook in my desk where it gets dusty. That's a good thing to check.
