I didn't want to trash one of the USA's IT companies, but i'm going to... and with good reason!

These are screen shots from the links tour. If anyone viewing this post can get their golf game to add a 2nd golfer to a Links tour round please let me know

Sometimes i would have the ability to shoot both player's rounds(if i wished) and it would count one, other times it would just add the 2nd players strokes to the hole so breaking 110 would take -18 by both on a 72 par course. In reality it has been either 2 stroke or 6 stroke penalties in the tourneys the anomaly reared its head (about 60%) since i purchased this computer in April.. as i leave and get disqualified when 2 players show up at the tee at hole one as shown above.

The gaming computer didn't have a DVD/CD drive so i installed the download version at 1st. A month later after having to play 2 rounds to get credit for one on three different occasions and noticing my scores were always a few strokes off since i got very bored, i sent a message to Mark asking why it was added to the online version.

Of course he thought i was nuts saying it was not possible until i started delivering screen shots. So i ordered a usb DVD/CD player and installed the 20 year discs. Same result just as Mark predicted to me.

So coming into August i turn my attention to the computer manufacturer. HP

I got into a session with one of their support specialist's where he had control of my pc and i directed him to the screenshots and pointed out the 2 duffers at the tee on hole one. I then had him open the golf game, go to the links tour and had him try to add a 2nd duffer to the tee.

He said the game would not allow it and i said...Exactly sir! The problem is the cr ap that HP added to the hard drive is messing with the only reason i purchased this computer. I was transferred to the compatibility support team...

 It's TRASHIN time

"Had this been brought to us in the 1st 30 days of use this would be a free service, but, since it wasn't we can fix this for $59 down and $29 a month or a $99 charge for a one issue fix." was the compatibility support team's response.

So HP gives a one year warranty on their computer's hardware, but they give you 1 month to address the damage their spyware does to user added programs. BUYER BEWARE OF HP!
The audacity of HP wanting to charge for a problem they created floored me to the point i thought... ef them... i know the cure!

This week i played the PLSA, the CLSC, the flight, the handicap, and a 2 round arcade event without issue. So i went from being unable to shoot 8 rounds on the links tour without a 2nd golfer showing up uninvited to shooting 18 rounds straight without issue.

The cure?

Ironically... Friday 9/16/22 on links2k3's 20th birthday... i brought my game back to life when i removed the 1TB SSD hard drive HP installed and installed my own. I then booted from a usb bootdisk and installed my own copy of windows 11 pro and reinstalled the golf game.

Too bad i had to spend $200 bucks on a "new" computer, but...Now i have the computer they sold me without the pork they added.

Same thing happened to me around 2019 (on an ASUS laptop, so I dont think it is a HP issue), I posted about it here on LSPN to ask if anyone knew anything about it and got no such replies. The issue only happened about once every 10-30 rounds or so and only in some game modes, of which Online play was the only issue. When it did happen in Online play, I just quit the tournament, kinda annoying but it wasnt a big deal to me since Online play was not my main focus. I never got any clarity about what caused it, I could only suspect it was some type of issue with Played-related files.

I too was only seeing the issue when connected to the links tour server, all other modes of play were normal. I don't think it is an HP issue, i trashed HP for their lack of addressing it while under warranty and trying to profit off of it as well.
If i may ask... did the machine that you had the same issue come preloaded with antivirus protection?

I think it did but those tend to be the first things I throw in the bin (and make sure they're fully gone). I did however use AVG Free at the time. I personally doubt that had anything to do with it, but I guess who knows.
