everyone's had an exception error starting links at one time or another.

the first thing i would try is starting 2k1 in links 2001 safe mode. if links starts, back out and try starting normally.

uninstall/reinstall 2k1 minus courses, a n i s (frelling censor bot!), saved games, etc.

uninstall/reinstall graphics drivers. most of my crashes with 2k1 were graphics card/driver related. once i discovered forums.guru3d.com, and howto properly uninstall/install drivers, i had very few problems.

try those, and let us know how you fare.

How do I start 2K1 in safe mode? I'm not sure what safe mode is.

Tks, JBL

start|all programs|microsoft games|links 2001|links 2001 safe mode (or something like that; i don't have 2k1 on this pc). links 2001 safe mode starts links with its lowest graphics requirements, e.g. 800x600x16 bit, etc. sometimes, i could start links 2001 in safe mode, it would start, then i could start normally. don't ask me why, it just did.

if that doesn't work, reinstall links (minus courses, a n i s (frelling censor bot!), saved games, etc) and your graphics driver per the guru3d.com instructions.

any results? I'm seeing the exact same exception.

I also can't run the launcher. I get the error:
8877041a Failed to start application

so you've followed the link to forums.guru3d.com, and properly uninstalled/reinstalled your graphics drivers? and you've uninstalled links 2001 completely (moved your courses folder somewhere they don't get deleted)?

back in the beginning of time, i don't recall if it was 2k1 or 2k3, i had a similar problem, and the only way i could fix it was to goto the registry and manually delete all references to links. i think that got fixed with a patch, but ya might goto the registry and search for links 2001 entries, and delete them (after uninstalling of course).

Exception Error

Postby liamoneilcpga on Fri Mar 02, 2007 8:02 pm

I have the same error popping up when I try to launch a game - it just shuts everything down, even if you try to save the .txt file. I did the Safe Mode thing but it didn't help at all. I backed out of the Safe Mode links when I got to the main screen (quick mode, players, options, etc). Should I have gone further and tried to launch a game?

I got in!

Postby liamoneilcpga on Fri Mar 02, 2007 8:50 pm

Well, it's a case of down with one error message and on to another.

I went to the ATI website and downloaded an update for my Radeon 7500 driver, and did the update through the device manager. It got me past the exception error.

Only thing now is that I have gotten a "course not found" error when I went to play a newly downloaded course for the first time through the tournament launcher.

Time to get back to reading some more posts i guess.

Cheers.

Which tourney and which course? Likely answers are you may have downloaded the wrong version the course (many have several), you downloaded a 2003 course which can't be used with 2001, or you installed it in the incorrect directory. Let us know
I reserve the right to be completly wrong
