Pinehurst #2 2008

There seems to be a problem with Pinehurst #2 2008.
The course never gets beyond a 20% load.

Just FYI

just noticed: you posted in the links 2001 forum. is pinehurst #2 2008 even supposed to work with links 2001?

there is a hesitation at 20 percent, but it quickly continues to 100 percent.

make sure antialiasing and anisotropic filtering are set to application-controlled. and maybe move the picture quality slider a notch or two to the left.

ya might also try redownloading the course. i just tried the copy i downloaded last year and it worked fine (with a hesitation at 20 percent). so i deleted that and redownloaded from linkscorner:

http://linkscorner.org/download/index.php?type=course&crz=1836

(their bandwidth is back, btw, i kicked off the download, read an email, and the notifier popped up to tell me it was done). replaced my copy with the new download through course manager, pinehurst still works.

the trouble is in your set. (8

My guess is that this thread is posted in the wrong fourm, because that course isn't going to even start loading in Links 2001.

I got rid of the only junk version of Links, 2k1, the day Links 2003 came out. I have not missed that malfunctioning version.

Thanks terrell,

I thought the same thing yesterday and i re-downloaded it and all was fin.
I hesitated at 20% in both 1.07 and 2.02.

All is fine now.

Thank Again

The bug with the ball bouncing off the edge of the cup was insanely frustrating.

Hey Mike,

I thought that was gone, but I guess it wasn't or isn't.
That cost me dearly a few times. It was either Course #2 or Course #8 it did that 45 yds into the water.

Was a bummer.

That, along with other problems with that version.

I believe that Mike was talking about the "rubber cup" when putting.

Some features of the 2001 version were better such as the putt swing meter was more precise than 2003 but that rubber cup was intolerable.

Well, Joe, I still think Links 2001 is the best, and most realistic (both playing and looking) golf sim ever marketed.

As for the "rubber cup" issue, I have experienced this primarily on only one course...Stone Canyon. Very rarely on any other course. So rarely, in fact, as to be a non-issue.

Wow! A name from the past. How are you doing droogy? Way back when, you were the best defender of Links 2001. Did you ever get Links 2003?

I thought that you did, but that was a number of years ago, when you were posting about Links 2001. If you did get Links 2003, you would see your error in saying 2001 was the best looking version.

Well, hi there, Bruce! I hope you're well.

And, yes, I actually purchased Links 2003 to see, first hand, if what I thought was actually true. And, to make a long story short, I still own and play Links 2001. Can't say the same about 2003.

Had an amusing incident, though. I considered the possibility that my brother and I were too partial, so we set up two top-quality screens, one right next to the other, and had a golfer hitting off the tee. Left screen, Links 2001. Right screen, Links 2003.

Then we gathered an impartial jury comprised of my mother, my sister and her husband; and we simply asked which image looked more realistic? Which one came closer to the experience of watching the PGA TOUR on network TV?

Now keep in mind, Bruce, we were using top notch equipment, with tons of memory and high quality video cards. We also had the image settings as high-quality as possible. For the Links 2001 presentation, I had Dan Forsman hitting driver from the first tee of Lacy Gearheart's phenomenal rendition of the Burnt Pine course at Sandestin Resort.

It was a unanimous decision, Bruce. A shutout, buddy. Links 2001 floored 2003 for a first-round knockout.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you, your brother, and your impartial jury would subscribe to LSPN and start playing, the 2001 event particiaption would more than double. :D
