no luck playing on 2003

Am running a belkin router on my secondary computor and play all golf off this one.When I host a game on matchmaker I get to screen that says waiting to begin game in links window,on other end says connection failed.If I join it says connection failed.Have all firewalls off on microsoft,trend micro and router.Do I need to open a port on my virtual serve in my router?
Router is pushing at 48 mps.Do I need to turn firewalls of on my primary computor even though it it turned off?Have msn gaming zone on my vurtual server in router
