Can someone help me out? Every time I attempt to play on line, I get "connection failed" . Have tried lots of things with no success. Thanks

first thing to do is make sure you're running v1.05:

http://www.lspn.net/downloads/linkspc/Links2k3_105_Final.exe

then point your registry to the correct server:

2k1: http://test.lspn.net/test/LSPN_Main_Site_2k1.exe

2k3: http://test.lspn.net/test/LSPN_Main_Site.exe

run internet explorer, internet options|security, and add http://www.lspn.net as a trusted site.

within links, connection settings, uncheck 'use system internet settings', check 'connect through lan or connect manually', and make sure use proxy is unchecked.

if it were easy, anyone could do it. (8

edit: oops, i just noticed your post is in the lobby games forum. if you're asking about match maker, here's everything you need to know:

http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/Links/Linksindex.htm

edit #2: please excuse all the typos. i just got back from a college baseball game, and i'm frozen to the bone. the fingers aren't working correctly.

Thanks Terrel. This was a big help. The problem is my router - my version of Dlink will not support Links.

that's a bummer. i'm running a netgear wireless router now, but a coupla years ago i had a dlink di624 that worked very well. make sure you're keeping up with firmware updates. (8

edit: you'll notice i don't always believe what the documentation says.

The router I'm running is a dlink and it says it won't open ports for links but it will, been running it for couple years now no problem
Do not argue with an i d i o t. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

I've been using a D-Link DI-624 for quite a while, but lately (in the past 2 months or so) I have been unable to successfully host a game here in the LSPN match maker. I can join with no problems, but not host. If you can host successfully, I'd be interested to see your setup for opening ports.

One thing I found out is that your router can renew ip addresses and assign yours to someone else on your network. You get someone else's ip and it's theirs that's set to DMZ.
This will cause you to be unable to host, but still participate.
