Need a little help getting started

Hi. I'm an old guy who is very good at Links 2003 but not quite sure how to get things going online in lobby rooms (Matchmaker). I've tried a few times but have been unsuccessful. Could someone give me a little help on the basics. I've read the brief Help files, but still get stuck.
