My personal preference is toward AMD. I have built numerous systems with their chips and never had a problem. Any problems I have had were motherboard problems. If your going to build your own on an AMD platform I might suggest the Opteron chips. They are supposed to be server chips but make great gaming and overclocking chips, too. They run cooler and even more reliably than the XP chips with the factory heatsink and fan.

However, I have to admit that at this moment, Intel has the lead in both speed and temperature control, with their Core 2 Duo chips. If you want the absolute latest and greatest, that is the way to go. You will pay for it at the cash register, though

Don't be surprised if AMD is back at the top of the pack by the end of the year.

There is no right or wrong answer. I just believe in supporting the underdog. Just think how much more expensive a computer would be if there were no competition to keep prices down.
