custom pins, #0/#18

Postby Larry_Warrilow on Sun Apr 15, 2007 10:08 pm

if any designers, or the admin are out there reading this, most recent apcds have 18 discreet hole locations, and the numbers of the hole locations when you look at them in practice mode go from 0 thru 17. the custom pin menu on the event creation page lists them as being 1 thru 18. the question is: does the #0 position on the green correspond to #18 in the menu? lw

thanks free, that makes a big difference. all my hole locations which i seriously worked on each of the last two weeks have all been off by one number. and on some greens that is really big deal. luckily i haven't seen any flagrant repetitions day to day. there have been some really cool hole locations, but (lol) it seems that i haven't actually specifically chosen any of them. how deflating. lw

It was a known bug during beta testing

Postby HeavySwinger on Tue Apr 24, 2007 7:41 pm

Larry,

I let Mark know about the problem several months ago posting at the beta site. If we were a little more organized around here, we could put these known problems on a sticky. For now, we will have to hope this stuff is found in these forum posts.

hmmmm, i thoroughly agree with what you're saying 100 percent, larry. it's been my personal observation, over the years, mark's a very organized guy, and he more than likely has a bullet list of things he needs to do. i'll float a pm to him to ask how (and if) he'd like to handle outstanding issues. he and brucebo may already have something in place.

it's also my personal observation i wouldn't get too enthusiastic. keep in mind links is now mark's sideline, and not his job. he's still a relative newlywed ya know. (8

LOL, don't think of it as a problem, rather think of it as LSPN's way of making your Links experience a little bit more of an adventure.

it's not really that big a deal once you know how things work. just add "one" to each of your pin choices and voila. i make a chart of my hole location choices before creating the event so it isn't really a problem, and it worked just fine at royal lytham this week.

bill bunning's superb model has 10 locations on each green, and there were plenty of good ones. i wound up creating 72 discrete pin positions, each green receiving a wide geographic assortment of locations, and maybe the most interesting overall green setup in the 29 weeks i've been putting up the event. lw

I suppose I thought 1-18 was easier for most people to understand because 0-17 is more of a programmer thing. I'm honestly not sure why they didn't originally use 1-18 in the game.

So is there a consensus that it should be changed to 0-17?

IMO it doesn't really matter which way 0-17 or 1-18, as long as it matches with your setup.
If you cannot change the game setting, then I guess 0-17 is the way to go.

I agree wholeheartedly.

Although I do not play here yet, I have though in the far past, IMHO it is better to mimic the actual game syntaxes. That way no misunderstandings can be made.
